THE VILLAGE OF PLAKA

Plaka is a settlement just next to the most famous sight of Tzoumerka, the bridge of Plaka. The bridge dates back to 1860 when it was the border between Greece and the Ottoman Empire.
Below the bridge passes the river Arachthos which offers variousof rafting routes and travelers have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural landscape at the river's valley.

- PLAKAS BRIDGE
The Plaka bridge was one of the largest arch bridges in the Balkans, with 61 meters in length and an arch of 40 meters (130 ft) width and 17.61 meters (57 ft 9 in) height. The bridge was built in 1866 on river Arachthos and was the physical border between the Kingdom of Greece and the Ottoman Empire until 1913. In February 1944, the historic armistice treaty between the two parties of the Greek Civil War was signed in the office next to the bridge.
- PLAKAS-MOUCHOUSTION MONASTERY
The Mouchoustiou monastery is located in the village of Raftanaioi on the road after Kalentzi. It is dedicated to the Birth of Virgin Mary which is celebrated on September 8. It is speculated that it was built during the Ottoman Period. The beautiful wall paintings of the monastery date back to 1694.
